Something new

How many times have you quoted Lamentations 3:23? You know, the one that says, "His mercies are new every morning; great is His faithfulness". I'm sure those words have rolled off my lips a hundred times or more. But this morning, as I opened my Bible, I heard myself asking the Lord for something new...something out of the routine of my daily readings. And the Spirit's response was, "Everything in here is new, because I'm the living One. And just as I am not dead, My words are not dead either".
His grace never ceases. His compassion's never fail. He is concerned about the soon to be 15 year old "child of my heart", the Blackbox boys in the Dominican, the Wantakians in Papua New Guinea, our Sweet Evan, my daughter's Lyme disease, and today's back pain. And the compassion He had for each of these yesterday? All new. The Spirit is not praying the same prayers from yesterday for any of these...He's going down deep, into the very depths of God (1 Corinthians 2:10) for something new today. That's amazing to me.
My soul says, "You are my portion! My hope is in You!"
Lamentations 3:25 tells me that God is good to those who wait for Him; He is good to those who seek Him. I'm holding on to that promise today.
"Silently I wait. Silently I hope. I lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. You will not allow my foot to slip today; because You never sleep. You keep me...all of me,...and I walk in the shade of Your right hand. The sun will not smite me today, nor the moon tonight. You are my protector from all evil; You keep my soul, and You will guard my going out and my coming up today and forever. And this You will do for each of those I speak to You about today, and then some" (with Psalm 121).
I love that some of the first words to John in his revelation from Jesus were these..."I am the living One; I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore..." (Revelation 1:18). Look at all that's growing around you today; the beauty you see in the flowers, the green lawns, my dad's 12 day-old puppies,...there's new life all around us. The same is true of God's mercies for you today, they're all new. Living; active; fresh, and delivered to you in the very portion your soul will need today.
Something new awaits you today...go and open your package!
